Meet the artist

Seiichi is a 7th generation potter and his family has been exclusively using wood fired kilns for over 160 years ago (since the end of the Edo period). Due to the sheer amount of effort in using these kilns, they only fire around 5 times each year!
Although more challenging and physically intensive to use, Seiichi describes using woodfired kilns as similar to cooking meat on a gas stove compared to with charcoal. Although consistency may be better with gas, you may get more beautiful results through wood firing as each piece becomes unique and may never be replicated perfectly again.
Seichii lived in Montana, USA for 1 year during high school where he learned to speak English. Because of this, he regularly accepts foreign apprentices.
