The Art of Aizome: Indigo Dyeing Workshop
What you can expect
Choose either a towel, scarf, handkerchief or shirt that you will indigo dye

Location & how to get there
Located in Kuroishi, Aomori which is easily accessible if you're visiting Akita, Hirosaki or Kuroishi!
The building where the workshop is held is on the right of the Kuroishi Yamagata Community Center
By Car: Approximately 15 minutes from Kuroishi Station and free parking is available
From Kuroishi Station:
Take the exit and head towards the Kuroishi Tourist Association and Tourist Information Center
Take bus 97 虹の湖公園 from 黒石駅前20 stops (21 minutes), alight at 下温湯 and walk for 2 minutes
Description
Step into the deep blue world of Aizome (indigo dyeing) in the charming town of Kuroishi where you can create with colour and connect with culture.
In this hands on workshop, you'll use locally grown indigo, cultivated by a former nurse who started Aizome in her efforts to revitalise the area as she guides you through the ancient techniques.
Watch the indigo dye transform from its green liquid form into its iconic blue colour as you transform an item of your choice!
Other things to note
A minimum of 2 people are required per booking
This workshop is suitable for children (aged 5 and above), however shirts are only available in adult sizes
An apron will be provided, however please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little dirty just in case!

These former nurses now spend their days laughing and having fun together whilst making indigo dyed clothing using ancient techniques
They've been dyeing indigo for so long that their hands now constantly have a blue hue to them!
