Make Your Own One of a Kind Lacquerware Chopsticks

Dive deeper into Japan's rich craft traditions with Tsugaru-Nuri - a type of lacquerware and 300 year old art form unique to Aomori Prefecture.

Guided by Mr. Kudō, a craftsman with over 40 years of experience, you will create your very own unique set of lacquerware chopsticks and experience the magic as you reveal vibrant colours hidden beneath multiple lacquer layers - a mesmerising process that brings centuries of tradition to life in your hands.

You'll also get to learn about the history of Tsugaru-nuri as well as the deep passion and key techniques that helped Mr. Kudō master the craft.

In this experience, you will:

  • Learn about the history of Tsugaru-nuri

  • Make your own Tsugaru-nuri lacquerware chopsticks which you'll get to take home on the day

Tsugaru-nuri was originally developed as a durable and decorative lacquerware primarily for samurai classes

Other things to note:

  • This activity is suitable for children (aged 7 and above) and families

  • No experience required

  • Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty just in case!

  • You'll also be able to browse and purchase some of Mr. Kudō's crafts in the store
