Reviews:
This calligraphy experience has been one of my highlights in Tokyo! It was amazing to learn a traditional craft from a master. The materials and explanations provided helped me understand the art form and connected me with this rare skill of Japan. Watching our teacher paint my name on the scroll was so beautiful and I am amazed that I have an art piece from one of the last practitioners of this style of calligraphy in Japan. For those interested in the art and craft of Japan, you have to book this experience!

I loved learning about the process of calligraphy and seeing the teacher explain about hisseki-jutsu was interesting as well. It’s a very eye opening experience to see how art and intention have come together to create a unique artwork. I was so impressed with my name written by the master himself and it’s a piece of art that I can never find anywhere else!

I tried my hands on calligraphy with Madara-sensei’s guidance and it was such a fun activity! I love how animated and passionate he is about his craft (apparently he’s the last master in this type of calligraphy too whoa)!!
My favourite part was seeing him illustrate my name in kanji - and then giving it meaning!!! So cool! And I get to keep the piece of artwork as a keepsake, such a special experience…
